Disagreeing Politically While Loving Unconditionally

By Doug Dameron

"Where you stand depends on where you sit." - Rufus Miles

In our recent message series "ONE - Faith|Politics|Unity", we looked at how we can DISAGREE politically, BUT LOVE unconditionally.

A key to being able to do that is to seek to understand.

Keep in mind, seeking to understand doesn't mean you are going to agree on an issue, it's simply a matter of trying to understand why someone's view on an issue differs from yours.

The societal current today seems to be "Agreement = Love, Disagreement = Hate". In Christ, it's supposed to be different.

Political agreement is NOT the determining factor on whether we are to love. In fact, Jesus gave us the commandment to "love one another, as I have loved you."

Jesus loves us all, even though we all hold some views I'm sure He disagrees with.

Seeking to understand involves asking questions, about finding out where someone "sits". It's about building relationships. It's about valuing PEOPLE OVER POLITICS.

Here's a 2 minute clip from our message People Over Politics:
